Hello, I am Naman.

I am an independent security and foreign policy researcher, writer, and editor as well as a non-resident fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft.

I am interested in understanding the forces that determine how diplomacy and warfare are deployed. Through my work, I explore themes dealing with neutrality, alliance systems, and military coups.

I currently work as an editorial consultant for Brown University’s Costs of War project as a research assistant Prof. Keyu Jin at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Central to my analysis is being historically informed. I have a BA (Hons), MPhil, and PhD in history from the University of Cambridge. I have also been a guest researcher at the Swedish Defence University, Université libre de Bruxelles, and Stockholm University.

I have been featured in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, on Swedish state television, the Danish newspaper Information and the Danish digital outlet Mandag Morgen, as well as Czech public radio. I have also been interviewed by various podcasts regarding my research and writing, including Militärhistoria, SJMS Talks, The Insider, and Neutrality Studies.

My Approach

Being historically informed guides my work, whether as a researcher, writer, or an editor. I seek to bring together lessons from history and see what lessons can be applied to address the world’s most pressing challenges.

International Experience

I have lived in five countries, speak three languages (and currently learning Russian and Chinese in my free time), and regularly work with people from across the globe.

This experience enables me to work alongside clients and colleagues with with varying worldviews and native languages.

Restraint and Realism

A major thread of my work is advancing the cause for a stable and secure world. This includes analysing and promoting foreign and security policies that are grounded in diplomacy, indivisible security, and peaceful co-existence.
